Warm Ups #3
Warm Up #55
What jobs can photographers have? List 5 occupations that photographers can have:
Photographers can have different jobs depending on what they like/prefer to photograph or what they are comfortable with. They have even more options if they go outside of their comfort zone. They could be a wedding photographer. Portrait photographer. Take pictures for business promotions and advertising. They could take family photos. And they could be a scenery photographer, being used for postcards.
Warm Up #54
If you could only photograph one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
I would hands down photograph animals, though they can be harder to make focus on the camera, it makes all of the photos taken more real. I have just about the cutest dog ever and I love taking pictures pf him, capturing his happy hyper stages, and his calm moments. But I would not stop there, I want to take pictures of all animals, in the wild or not. Close ups to show the details of the fur and paws, and far away to show their habitat and where they feel comfortable. I love animals and would definitely choose to take photos of them if nothing else.
Warm Up #53
Peruse through her website, http://www.rachelvanoven.com and tell me something you like about her work, or something that seems interesting. I found this photo on her FB, and what do you think I love about this collage?
I enjoy the way she photographs, she changes up the angles and depth depending on what she wants the photo to portray. I like the lighting she uses, she makes them seem bright and happy, being light and pleasing to the eye. What I like about the collage is that it has consistent lighting, it looks edited but not too heavily. It shows that she was interacting with the model while taking these pictures and they show true emotion and reactions, very candid. Those are my favorite kind of photos.
Warm Up #52
Describe the photo. What are other ways to photograph "portraits" without showing faces?
This photo is meant to be showing more about the person their photographing than the person them self. It shows more of what the girl likes to do rather than what her face looks like. It is blurry in the background proving that. The only clear part of the picture is the notebook and pen in her hands. Other portraits could show the person facing backwards and looking at something. They could be holding something in front of their face. Or a far away shot, showing motion and cannot clearly see their face.
Warm Up #51
Do you drink coffee, what's your favorite drink? From where?
I do drink coffee, I've developed more of a liking for the taste lately. I actually have a coffee machine at our house now, so I tend to use that instead of ordering one from Starbucks. And I definitely prefer vanilla creamer over all else. But, I do love Starbucks. I like iced and hot, but I prefer frappes, I like the caramel frap. But, if I'm not feeling like coffee, I'll go for an strawberry acai refresher.
Warm Up #50
How have you been editing your photos? Are you still using Lightroom? Do you use an app on your phone, or just the basic editing programs on your computer or phone? What do you usually do to edit your photos?
I still use Lightroom to edit my photos. I tend to play with a little bit of everything to see how I want the feel of my photo to be. But I usually focus on adjusting the exposure. I play with shadows and the lighting of the photo, whites and blacks, highlights. I don't like to over saturate my photos, but sometimes a bit more of popping color can help. I try to keep my photos looking pretty natural and close the the original, just some tweaks.
Warm Up #49
We will begin doing some Photoshop stuffs in a few weeks. Brainstorm three ideas of things you might want to learn how to do. You don't need to know how to do the things, just come up with three things you would want to learn.
I want to learn how to edit sections of the photo, like change the lighting of one part of it only. I'm not sure how to do that. I don't really know what else I'd be able to do. Maybe be able to take something unwanted out of the photo. And the third would be to add something to the picture, I suppose. That would make for some interesting and much more open opportunities to make it exactly what you want. I think we could have fun with that.
Warm Up #48
What's been going on with you lately?
Lately I have been planning out everything that I have to do from now until part way through summer (and the rest of senior year). I am going to be extremely busy until graduation, just about every weekend taken up with some event. I am going to be attending the first ever black light dance at the school on the 27th, so hopefully that will be fun. Get to be all neon. That same weekend, I will be going to Disneyland all day and then the day after it will be my best friend's 18th birthday! So that's exciting, and crazy. I am really stressed about all of this but also am very excited.
Warm Up #47
For your warm up today, look at the links below and tell me which category seems most interesting and why. You need to COPY and PASTE the links, don't click on them.
The most interesting category to me would be the portrait/studio photography. I really enjoy these photos because the focus is important to the photographer. They take pictures of real things and emotions, whether that be of people or animals. They capture the being and showcase it however the photographer wants it to be seen as. I personally am gravitated toward pictures like these. I love the style and they are all unique.
Warm Up #46
We are going to start an studio portrait project. I've had you look at a few sites like this before, but take a look at these and jot down 2 things from each site that you think will be helpful. The first one has more to do with how you work with your subject. The second one focuses more on camera stuff.
I will probably work with changing up eye contact and taking pictures candidly. I find that these photos tend to come out best. The ones that aren't staged. As far as the other website, I might play with the exposure of the picture, I feel that that helps to make the photo look how you want it quite quickly. The other would be lens choice. The depth of the picture definitely plays a part in the feel of the photo. How close or far away the camera is gives a different vibe to the photo.
Warm Up #45
We are going to be doing another set of portraits soon, using the lighting studio in the back of the room. What kind of portraits would you like to take?
I would like to take more personal portraits, as in you can see the personality behind the face. They always seem more real to me that way. Not just smiling for the photo, but laughing at a joke shared or making their go to silly face. I love when the model does their own thing, the photos come out beautifully because of it. I enjoy the real side of photography.
Warm Up #44
Tell me about a funny, random, or scary encounter you’ve had with an animal.
When I was in San Francisco with my family, we got out of the car to take pictures where the scenery was nice. While heading back to the car, I saw a squirrel. I didn't think much of it so I kept walking to the car, but it followed me. It was really weird, and I didn't have any food. I've never been scared of a squirrel, but now that it was standing right by the car door, I didn't want to open it and have it jump inside. My step dad had to throw a piece of a donut out the window so I could hurry and get inside while the animal got the food.
Warm Up #43
How do you think this photo was created? (Don't say "I don't know!")
Warm Up #42
What are your observations about the photos? What would photos of today’s “rebellious youth” look like?
