Warm Ups #4

Warm Up #65
I know your green screen project is due tomorrow. But Google "green screen photos" and look at all the interesting examples. What are some ideas you hadn't thought of?

While looking through some of these photos, I saw some that I think would make some interesting edited pictures. Some examples would be, falling into/off of something or flying. I also saw the idea to add wings to the person. One that I am personally surprised I didn't include was adding an animal like a dog. I am still happy with the ones I mad though.

Do you like the distortions? Do you think these types of photos are classified as "photography," or as "art?" Why?

I personally am not the biggest fan of these distortions, but I do think that they are well done. I think that it probably took a decent amount of time to create these, so I applaud that. Before the editing, they would definitely be classified as photography. However, I think that with this amount of editing that they would now be considered art. They were played with enough that the person wanted to make them look edited, having the viewer know they were distorted. That is why they would now be art.

What are your plans for the long weekend?

My plans for Memorial Day Weekend are to mainly watch my puppy Stefan. My mom is going to North Carolina to check out her new house and to move a couple of things in. I will be with Stefan until she gets back on Sunday. I also hope to go to the improv show on Friday, I think that will be fun. I will probably spend time with a couple close friends as well.
Update: I got asked to prom.

If you could do one of our projects over, which one would it be? Why? What would you do differently?

I would do the personality portraits again. This is mainly because I enjoyed taking these photos and interacting with my model. I would like to do this with other people as well. I prefer taking pictures of people so this was a project that I had a really good time with. I think that the photos I took came out really well and I'd like to test it out with others.

Check out these interesting photography facts. Which FIVE are the most interesting to you?

The first would be that the core technology used in digital photography was invented by Kodak. The second would be that cameras actually took several hours to capture film before, I knew it took longer but I didn't think it was that long. Not only that, but, the third, people had to hold that pose for hours themselves, meaning not many photos were of smiling faces. Fourth, which is crazy but makes sense is the "hidden mothers", children would be uncomfortable taking photos so their mothers would pose as chairs to hold them. And lastly, the first digital camera was created in December of 1975, this time only taking 23 seconds to develop a picture.

What are your plans for the summer?

My plans this summer are pretty exciting. I am traveling to Europe for the first time. I am going to London, Amsterdam, Belgium, and Paris. We are going to visit all of the touristy locations and of course, going to Disneyland Paris. I am beyond excited, I love traveling. I am going with my mom and my brother. It is to celebrate my 18th birthday and graduation, my mom's birthday, and my brother's late birthday, and anything else we want to call it. We are leaving mid July and getting back in early August, just in time to start my fall semester in college.

Take a look at this site. Probably something I will start with for next year, but take a look. What are some things that you already do? What are some new things that you learned?

I knew that interacting with the model and trying to get real reactions make the best photos. It always looks better when you get a candid photo of them making a face or laughing at themselves or others, or even smiling at the conversation from either side of the camera. I learned that there is such a thing called the "blue hour". This time is one hour before sunrise and one hour after sunset. I knew about "golden hour", but I did not know about blue.

Warm Up #58
Take a look at these easy "photo hacks." What do you think? Which one would you try first, and why?

Those seem like easy enough ways to get a unique photo. I did like the colored bag, but i think I would probably try the CD reflection first. It gives off a really cool effect and it doesn't need to be edited in. I like the colors it adds. It also helps that the disk can be just outside of the shot and still work the same way. Because then you do not have to worry about the distraction in the photo or giving away the trick behind the picture.

What are your plans for the weekend?

My plans this weekend are very important. I have my senior grad nite on Friday at Disneyland, that should be fun. All of my friends and I got placed on the same bus for the ride up and back. I'm pretty excited. On Saturday, I am probably doing nothing but sleeping to make up for the late night and leaving Disney at around 2 a.m. Sunday is Mother's Day and I am going to, once again, prove to my siblings why I am the favorite child. I have made my mom a poster to hang on her wall, I bought fake flowers and formed them in a shape of a heart, wrote "Happy Mother's Day" on is, and covered the rest in pictures of her and her children. I also cut 20 hearts and wrote thank you on them and when they are opened, it has a reason why. I am going to hang those by strings from the ceiling all over her room. And to top it all off, I got her a silver necklace with a heart on it. She's going to love it.

Warm Up #56
What publication (magazine) would you want to take photos and write for? Why? What do you like about that publication?

I would want to work for Vogue magazine. They tend to take good pictures of people and they have a style set for themselves. They are unique without making their models look crazy. It is well known, but does not get much bad publicity. I think the photos they print are nice quality and they try to make their models look good. It seems like a well run machine and very organized from an onlooker's perspective.
